The Balanced Dog

My practice is born out of the passion I have for dogs and healthy alternatives in working towards strengthening the immune system and and hopefully preventing disease.

My first experience using homeopathy on a dog was in 1995 when my female black labrador was 8 years old. Every summer for the previous 4 years she would get wet eczema on her back, mostly by the base of her tail. It was a horrible thing which made her skin hot, irritated, gooey, full of pus and caused hair loss. The Vet said it was a fungus similar to athlete’s foot & recommended Tinactin to be applied as directed on the bottle. This proved to be very effective. But then it recurred and it kept recurring every year, several times a year. It was summer and she was pregnant with her 2nd litter. Her wet eczema was horrible & her rear end was just about bald. We applied the Tinactin as we had done in the past. She lost her babies. Megan was very sick and her body stunk.

I decided it was time to do something different. I had been using homeopathy, personally, since 1993. I didn’t have any major health problems but I experienced great positive results without the use of any anti-biotics, muscle relaxants or OTC drugs. This was huge for me because I also did not experience any side effects from the remedies such as drowsiness,  nausea, etc.. Instead, I felt an increase in my energy level & greater wellness. I decided to try it on Megan. My homeopath prescribed some homeopathics for her and in 3 days she began to heal. 2 weeks later and the hair on her back was growing back. For the rest of Megan’s life she never again suffered from wet eczema.

But that’s not all.

In 1997 when she was about 10 years old she was diagnosed with squaemous cell carcinoma, a type of aggressive skin cancer. They surgically removed the diseased tissue but a year later the cancer came back with a vengeance & the Vet gave her 30 days to live. My homeopath cured himself of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and although not cancer, he had already helped Megan over her wet eczema so I thought I’d try him, again. He prescribed some remedies to which she responded beautifully. Within a few weeks she was doing her “leap frog” across the room. Megan lived another 3.5 quality years to the ripe old age of 14 years, 9 months & 7 days.

Dogs are one of God’s greatest gifts to man and I believe they deserve the best care we can possibly give them without jeopardizing their immune systems. “Do No Harm”. My holistic protocol consists primarily of a superior diet, homeopathy, Bach Flower essences, laser acupuncture and LLLT. I believe the best way to keep a dog healthy is to give him a good foundation. The sooner you start, the better. I start mine when they are in the mother’s womb. My litters do not need to go through chemical worming because they do not have worms.

When I decided to embark on this journey I was too old to go to veterinary school and there weren’t any schools teaching this type of alternative medicine for dogs, so I took as many classes as I could find and melded them with my “informal” 16 years of holistic living and applied it all to dogs. With this type of complimentary medicine, the canine world is very similar to the human world. We are all made of energy and homeopathy is energy medicine.
